South Africa is declining. Whites are moving out and the country will slip back into third world status soon. They already can't even keep their hospitals and colleges operational.

This is true, South Africa used to be the shining beacon, but no more. The writing is on the wall.

Hmmm. What was great about South Africa beforehand? Was it the fact that about 90% of its population was subjected to racial discrimination that was harsher than Segregation in 1950s Mississippi? Wait, not what great about it, it is a beautiful country and was/is pretty wealthy, but rather what made it a "shining beacon"?

Yes, usually a good economy is key. When that goes, doesn't matter who is enslaved to who does it?

An entire continent that can't seem to shake the ghosts of colonial past?
Wasn't the USA once a colony? Wasn't Canada? Wasn't India? Wasn't a huge part of Asia?
Hmmmmm The victims of colonial rule excuse appears to be a bit thin at the moment. As some already pointed out many parts of Africa are doing quite well.
In short none of our business. We never had colonies in africa cant blame this one on us.

However, Ever since colonial rule left, Africa has been in shambles and is facing many government vs. terrorist problems. Just a few weeks ago Nigeria had to stop producing as much oil because the government had to defend a terrorist group attacking. Children are abducted in the middle of the night and forced into these child armies. Seeing 11-year-olds with machine guns is not something that should happening on this world.

Why don't we do something about it? Why don't we colonize Africa again?

It may seem like a far reach, but, Africa could surely be a gorgeous place, and can add trillions to the booming economies in many nations.
You are either very naive, or an outright racist. My guess is that it is the latter.

What, in your opinion, makes this person's comments racist?

This is a great thread. Something needs to be done about Africa. Not just by the US but all countries need to chip in. It is our business. Those of you who think it isn't our business... there are some cowardly countries in Europe who aren't helping fight the war on terror that will welcome you with open arms.

It's kind of like when a bully in school is picking on a little kid who can't defend himself, and the US and the rest of the world is a big strong kid in the class. Even though the bully isn't picking on us, we have the resources to help out.. and we should. It's our moral obligation. It's time for the world to colonize Africa. They've had long enough to solve their problems. They have tribes there where the men refuse to work. Children are starving.. AIDS is rampant.. something has to be done.

The rest of the civilized world has waited long enough and it's time that the civilized countries go in and fix this devastating part of our world.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This thread is the prime example of why we are viewed the way we are in the world. Africa is generally a tribal continent. What is wrong with that? Sure they have lots of problems over there, but so do we. Who are we to step in and take over or change things. Sure you can call them "uneducated". But they don't have the resources, nor do they need to be as educated as us.

The only pressing thing that we might want to look at is these militants killing innocent people, and hunger. Everything else should be left alone.

I say if there were a list of 1000 priorities the United States would have, taking over wouldn't even be on the list.

It's utter ignorance to claim that Africa is perfectly fine as a tribal continent.

Hello, it's the 21st century.

Africa is a vast land that offers alot. We can use that to our advantage. To the world's advantage, that is.

Kids in Africa die of easily curable disease, but because no one cares about the continent, or does not want to bother messing with it, they are left uncared about and untreated.

It's about time someone or someones step in and make change. Despiting that it's morally and humanely right, but, Africa is a box of money waiting to be opened.

I would love to travel to Africa. But, I am not interested in getting basic shots for diseases that went MIA two hundred years ago. It's not worth the risk.

What is worth the risk is to build up Africa. (:
