The statist Right thought Obama was bad but the statist Left has been 100X worse with with their bloodthirst for Trump.
Ain't that the truth. With the way things are going on college campuses now anyone who is to the right of Mao is considered a Nazi. I think I could count on one hand the number of students on any given college campus who are nuanced enough to even comprehend libertarianism.
I only used those terms because I believe NoRecess and Rebledor have used them. Just give me a name that you guys can agree on so you know when we're referring to you.
But that carries the same utility, as being called a square circle, or a married bachelor. I enjoy an insouciant ribbing as much as any red-blooded provocateur, but certainly there's merit, in lodging one's jabs accurately?
But back to the topic: if I am to be annoyed by this or that government, does it matter whether it's federal, state, or local? If I am to be employed by this or that government, likewise does it matter? If I am told that my car is illegal, because it has a tampered emissions-control system, does it matter if the authority having jurisdiction, is federal, state or local? And if I receive a benefit, be it subsidized healthcare or free shells for my shotgun or free syringes for my next fentanyl fix, does it matter if the generosity is federal, state or local?

It's not just college campuses. It is much of the Media, Education at lower levels, much of government, and many large corporations, especially the tech industry. All pushing European style Socialism, which is just a slightly softer form of Maoism.
I have allegiance to myself, my family, and my friends.
I will never pledge allegiance to a State or to the idea of a State ruling over me.
Being a member of a society is being ruled. The two are inseparable.
Whenever there are a few family groups that join together for their mutual fellowship and advantage, a ruler of some kind will always emerge. That's human nature. It's built in to our biology.
Being a member of a free society allows you any allegiance you want, but only if you abide by the larger rules of the society you're in.
There is nothing to stop you from settling down with your family and friends 100 miles from nowhere in any direction, but that does not abrogate your obligations to our society at large. You would need your own private island to be truly free of all rulership.
Isolation would limit your interactions with other humans, but you still have a citizen's obligation even if there's no one around. Those obligations could be minimal, but they still exist.
There are still available islands in case you find life here too objectionable to bear. Some can be had for free if you can stay alive on them.

It shouldn't matter at all, since government is by definition coercive and violent.
In a free society you wouldn't need government emissions controls at all. The market would allow consumers to decide; knowing what we know now about how bad carbon emissions are for our health, most people would choose the vehicles least likely to pollute. But it wouldn't be forced on us by State bureaucrats.
There should be no benefits of any kind, period. So there would be no free anything. All freebies would come from donations and private charities.

The crazy thing is a large percentage of tech workers are libertarian. They just either go into hiding or, like James Damore, get fired for speaking out against forced social justice. The companies themselves are this weird blend of Randian capitalism mixed with SJW. It's bizarre.

Spot on. It is bizarre. That's why I want to keep my rifle.
