The problem with these kids is that they're only half educated. They're advocating "throwing the baby out with the bath water". The problem isn't capitalism, it's our implementation. We need to drastically reduce the power of corporations.

There was a time (back when this country was founded) when corporations had time limits on their charters. They had to make all financial reports public. Individuals could be held liable for crimes committed by the corporation. Over the years, corporations were granted more and more power (and protection from liability). In the late 1800s, they were granted personhood by the Supreme court. This is one of the biggest problems in this country, in my not-so-humble opinion. It is possible to restrict the rights of corporations and still have a capitalistic economy. We just need to reverse foolish decisions, like those made by the Supreme Court.

As James Madison wrote in The Federalist No. 51, “what is government but the greatest reflection of all on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, no internal or external controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.”

As you can see we've been kicking this around for a while now

To all who haven't read a news paper in 6 months stay home on voting day.
I quit taking the liberal rags years ago. Surely you want people to vote with truthful information don't you?

Perhaps young people today are beginning to see the false promises and little return that an 'unbridled laissez faire economic' system brings.

Thinks like over the top consumerism, debt, slavery to your company who has no loyalty to you- and spits you out in the street like road kill-

I wonder why?

It's not ignorance it's indoctrination. Our institutions of education are full of socialist and far left wing liberals. I hear the horror stories of some of the diatribes that go on in the schools and colleges that those in my family must endure.
Oh I bet you do.

Did you raise you hand when the GOP debate was on and the candidates were asked if they believed in science? Three of them didn't raise their hand. Yet another instance of the GOP's dumbing down of America.

Oh those evil diatribes.

Our schools are controlled by liberals and liberal teachers, just follow the money to who the NEA donated money to. It is appalling how many students can barely read when the get out of school. Now that is some dumbing down of America!

Then why, in the blue states, do students achieve the highest SAT scores, get accepted to the most prestigious universities, have the lowest dropout rates, and the highest IQs?

And why in the red states are schools considered horrible, have the highest dropout rates, lowest rate of those who go on to college and the lowest IQs?

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the liberals, miss citi.

ACT National and State Scores for 2006: Average ACT Scores by State

Of course we might want to look at the percentage of kids actually tested. I do believe that could influence some stats. I know when my granddaughters were in the California schools reading was always a topic. Most read like they were in the 4th grade and they were in the 12th.

I know we have, but so many Americans, today, are far from being experts on the subject (that's putting it nicely). (Uninformed) People hear an opinion on TV/radio/etc and don't investigate it. They don't go into any depth, whatsoever. People are divided into two diametrically opposed groups and pitted against each other. Meanwhile, our oligarchy slowly dissolves our civil liberties.

But you skirted my question...you only answered one part.

I'm all ears....

I wouldn't fear Socialism in it's purist form. It's just that it's an idealist philosophy that doesn't work because of the nature of man and in my opinion any semi-socialism is a waste of time.....

Overly simplistic??? Yes, but that's how I see it.
