We live in our house, in Sun City, for 6 months out of the year. We will be needing an internet provider, when we come down from MN. In MN we have Mediacom cable tv & internet. In Sun City, we really only need internet, since our rabbit ears work well for tv. Last winter my husband used my smartphone's Verizon "hot spot", but that really uses up my phone data. We can go to various places, including the rec centers, for WiFi, but it's so much more convenient at home. Just wondering what our options are, if any. Like most, we like to keep our costs to a minimum. Thanx!

We use Cox - not cheap, but has been reliable for us.

They let you put your internet service on "vacation hold" up to 2x a year when you aren't there and you just pay a monthly hold fee rather than the whole cost. I think the hold fee is either 7.95/month or 9.95/month... can't remember exactly - but definitely under $10.

We now pay close to $65/month when we are there though....

Good question, MNSvenska . . .

Have you considered one of those Cellular Internet Systems being offered by Sprint and Verizon (probably a few more) that are designed to "relocate" with you?

Sure beats paying for two systems while only using one at a time.

Has anyone tried that Verizon Home Fusion. It is an internet service for your home. It is around $60 a month here and the service is, reportedly, sketchy. My Mediacom tv & internet, in MN, is about $45 a month, so we went with them. They (Mediacom), also, have a vacation mode.

OP basically you have Cox or Quest for internet services. It's a crapshoot as they both are unpredictable.
We have Quest and its generally okay, a few problems now and then. Our neighbor has Cox and they seem to have them out monthly for some type of problem service or another.

You sound like a light data user, I'd call each company and ask for their no contract prices on their low-end internet plan. If you only need it for 6 months it's probably way cheaper stopping and starting it only when you need it.

Cox looks like $47.99/month without a contract and $34.99/12 mo contract = $287.94 for 6 mo vs $419.88 for 12 mo

High Speed Internet Pricing and Plans | Cox Communications

Using cellular will be expensive as you can't really get unlimited data plans anymore and you usually have to pay for being able to use a wifi hot spot on your phone. I'm grandfathered in to unlimited data and I use a 3rd party hotspot app that works well for me.

If all you need is basic browsing, email, etc. you may consider getting a iPad or Android tablet that has cellular built-in that you can do all that on.

We're in Sun City and with Quest, our 6 month start stop, start stop contract is $19.95 per month. Though some contacts I hear are $24.95 monthly and there is one for $29.95.

Quest? Are you refering to Qwest which became CenturyLink in 2011 to rid themselves of the Nacchio legacy?

Yes my faux pas, we had been with Quest forever and keep forgetting it's been changed to Century Link. It comes with the old age territory.
