But the core issue is HOUSING COST. That issue would be best addressed directly by, first and foremost, BUILDING MORE HOUSING! 2. They should also consider taxing foreign buyers as Vancouver did.
Raising the minimum wage isn't going to solve the housing problem. If there isn't enough housing, people at the bottom of the wage scale are always going to be priced out....so all you do is create inflation.
i heard this that makes sense. Housing prices are very much determined by liberal politicians. BY ZONING!
They dont want any more building.
Imagine how many housing hasnt been built coz of the darn DESERT TORTOISEs.
MY POINT IS FOOLS BELIEVE MIN wage IS A MAJOR ISSUE. min wage is for teenie boopers learning how to work. Was never meant to suporrt baby mommas with 5 kids from 4 fathers.

We have a high MW here in Washington State (9.47) and it does impact hiring trainees. I know of two small companies that used to bring in young people at MW with a goal to get them up to a median wage almost twice as much once they proved to be reliable and productive. Regulations have made that approach difficult and in one case the company has changed to part time workers on contract to reduce labor costs.
But the point is, you have to address the housing issue directly. If housing doesn't pay, then why not? What can be done to make it pay? But none of that is being discussed, at least not by the minimum wage advocates, because they don't care about any of that. It's not part of their narrow agenda. I know here in California, a lot of it has to do with red tape, environmental rules, and the ability of a few NIMBYs to block new housing in their neighborhoods. I suspect some of the same things are at play in Seattle.
Raising the minimum wage is a band aid that doesn't address any of that. Rules and red tape are invisible to average people....but they have very real effects.
Joel Kotkin (and he's a Democrat, by the way) talks about how this process works. I suspect a lot of the same types of laws are at work in Seattle:
I'm not sure why you brought up the (incorrect) point that Joel Kotkin is a democrat. For one he's not liberal at ALL and two he is no longer even a democrat.

OK, I agree. I didn't realize you were being sarcastic. That doesn't always come through in writing. That's why you should put "sarc" in parentheses. Otherwise, you can be easily misunderstood.
What do you mean? it's veeeerrry true. Especially on the West Coast.
And worse yet, zoning laws are increasingly being dictated by UN Agenda 21. This woman goes into great detail about it (and she's an admitted liberal Democrat who used to work for the state of CA valuing land for the state of CA in eminent domain cases. She found it harder and harder to put value on many parcels of land because of all the rules and regulations. She found out that many of the regs are disguised as local "grass roots" ordinances, but basically many metro areas around the world are adopting the exact same set of rules and regs).

The last time I read it he was a Democrat who even voted for Gov. Brown even though he disagrees with him on a lot of things. If you have a source that says he changed parties, I would like to see it.

When i think of liberal woman. THIS is exactly how i envision her..................lol. On the Harvard soccer ratings scale she might rate ZERO.............................
If you can't afford to pay your workers at a level that approximates a living wage, there is something flawed about your business plan.
If you need to pay subpar wages for your business to work, you are dependent on some kind of welfare. You can only hire dependents that are subsidized by their families or government.
Massachusetts was the first state to institute minimum wage in 1912. It became federal law in 1938. It was not meant for "teeny boppers." At that time less than half of all Americans graduated from high school. Being a teenager was something different then.

Um, ok. I have no idea what you're talking about.
