Just read the Eugene Weekly on-line, and went to survivalistseeds.com, and therefore, have some ... well, "concerns."
<sarcastic>

Eugene and Ashland are two very desirable areas and, of course, there aren't answers to all of these:

Between Ashland and Eugene, what place is more Liberal? Libertarian?

Do some people not like Eugene because it's large and spread out, with crime problems, and citizens who perhaps inappropriately challenge the authorities?

Consequentially, what "personalities" gravitate towards Ashland vs. Eugene? Since:

....Eugene-Springfield is quite large and cosmopolitan, with anarchists and activists, might artists, writers, farmers, etc. prefer Ashland over Eugene?

And, how about the cost of living? On Craigs List, both are low, however, what about food and other expenses?

And, in which city is it easiest, to rent a house on acreage, outside of the Urban Growth Boundary for farming/permaculture, without government restrictions (i.e. building a chicken coup, shed, or greenhouse)?

Thanks ...
