Last time I was out in HB was 07...however the years I'm nostalgic for are circa 95...

Just out of curiosity for those who have been there and the general coastal orange county area mid 90s until now, what are the main differences you notice?

I was at Huntington all the time until the mid-1990s. Today, Main Street seems totally different to me. The beach itself, and the other OC beaches, seem pretty much the same. Laguna Beach, for example, is hardly changed since I was a child in the 1970s.

The "new" Main Street has no character. Huntington Beach was funky, divey. The old Golden Bear was legendary. Then the HB city council didn't like "funky, divey" so they took properties by eminent domain and resold them to developers.

Now bear in mind, the New Main Street is very nice and I like it, but it is sort of like loving your nephew, even though he was a product of your sister's rape. The eventual outcome might be okay, but the way it got there was all wrong.

Yes, when I finally went back to Huntington after a couple of decades--say around 2015--I thought I had lost my mind, because I couldn't find Main Street, and what were all these shiny new characterless buildings?

Yeah the Golden Bear was neat. Went there with friends when out of high school.

Seal Beach is great. It is possibly the last, unspoiled beach town in OC. I am not sure if it is proximity to Long Beach, or the Naval Weapons Station that keeps it quiet.

I went in the early 2000s and have visited many times since then. I am going back in a few weeks.

I don't actually recall that much difference other than it being a little less funky in the downtown area. I for one think Main Street is very nice.
