Spent this weekend at my folks house, not too far from one of most overlooked state parks in this area, Green Leaf State Park. This little park is less than 10 miles from Lake Tenkiller, so it is kind of in the shadows of that very popular lake. There are a lot of Bald Cypress trees around this charming little lake which really gives it a southern look. This parks has some really great hiking trails that go miles and miles back into the foot hills of the Ozarks. Hard to believe it is just 15 miles southeast of downtown Muskogee, Green Leaf State park is in Muskogee Country. There are also some great mountain biking trails in and around this park. Also a great place to go Geocaching, which is what I was doing there.

Great pics. The lake looks inviting. And those cypress trees are a trip.

Thanks Redbird! Green Leaf lake is only 3 miles long, but it is kind of remote and quite. There are a lot of cypress around it. Just a little north, Lake Ft Gibson has tons of cypress. I wonder if there are rules about planing trees around Corp lakes? I was thinking of planting a few Cypress around my home lake, Lake Eufaula. If would be nice to get them started there.

Wow, beautiful vistas. That's a lot nicer than our place over on Lake Eufaula. So much for the barren Dustbowl wasteland and the Grapes of Wrath myth applied to Oklahoma.

I would love to do some of the hiking trails around there (feelin' too old for the biking!).

Actually I was born and raised on Lake Eufaula, and my folks are still there. Greenleaf park is pretty close by. There are a lot of great vistas and walking trails around lake Eufaula. One of my favorite place to walk is Lake Eufaula State Park used to be called Fountainhead Park. That park has a lot of well maintained trails and you can see a lot of wildlife, deer, armadillo, foxes, turkeys, eagles and so many others. You have to be careful of wild pigs, skunks and other critters. Back in the 80s a buddy and I had an encounter with a mountain lion I would have to say it was the most terrifying moment of my life! The hair on my body stood straight up before we heard the scream, I will never forget that sound.

Are Mountain Lions Fairly Common In Oklahoma......?

I remember walking up on a Alaskan Brown Bear and the hairs standing up on my neck . sort of
the same type of experience.

Are you allowed to hunt Mountain Lions within the state of Oklahoma...?

I don't think you are aloud to hunt them, I hope not.
