I'm driving from Colorado Springs to Oklahoma City on the way to Texas tomorrow, and I'm going through Oklahoma on 412/270 to avoid New Mexico.

I've never driven this way before. Is there a convenient place to stop halfway where I can get some lunch? https://www.meetways.com/ tells me that Amarillo would be the most convenient stop, but I don't want to add that much mileage or time to my trip.

Thanks for the help. Stay safe.

JB

Guymon, OK is about 1/2 way. However going through Amarillo will not add much time to your trip. More miles but not more time. Why not drive through NM?

Thanks. NM scares me. Their governor is as crazy as they come. She makes ours look coherent. I don't trust NM not to try to quarantine passers through like us.

Guymon has a few places that aren't bad. Woodward is a couple hours further and has a few places as well. Those would be your two spots that you would hit about lunch time.

The Ambassador is right on the highway on the way into Guymon. They have a really good breakfast. I've never had their lunch. On the Northeast side of town and downtown there are a couple of steakhouses and pretty good Mexican places if you don't mind more of a TexMex fare.

Why not take I-70 through Kansas? Or is it a little too far out of the way?

Colorado Springs is way south of I-70.

I have made two trips from Oklahoma to Arizona since May. Last time was about a week ago. Your only potential problem would be staying overnight on NM. Some hotel chains will contact the state if you have out of state plates. If you are just passing through you have no worries. No one is checking out of states plates and stopping them. I have stayed overnight several times from May to now. I stay in a small inn and have zero problems. If you are only passing through, lots of people are doing the same thing and no one will bother you.
