I had a medical issue in June of this year and due to COVID-19, I couldn't get in. I finally got in July 1st. 2020 at 8am and the infection that developed caused the doctor to schedule me for a surgery at 3pm the same day. Fast forward to my post surgery appointment, the infection damaged my bones and I have my second surgery scheduled August 26th for a bone graft. The doctor office called saying they could get me in earlier on August 19th. Now I've kept my supervisor updated from the beginning and never missed work up until surgery #1. When I told her about the date being moved up because of pain, she said no....we have 1/2 people off and it will be painful. Now I looked on our team calendar and there was one person off but I feel my time was denied because the person scheduled off is her escalation manager and my manager views us both as her strongest employee, so she couldn't have both of us off. Can my supervisor deny my time off request for surgery

If my health was in question, I would escalate to the next highest manager, or to HR if necessary.

I would go to HR to see what your options are.

Sick leave is granted at the discretion of the employer. The schedule is definitely a factor. Unless the surgery is an emergency, consider rescheduling it to a time that is more compatible with the schedule.

REQUEST A MEDICAL LEAVE from your employer or boss and email it to the HR DEPT about you being unable to work due to a medical condition.
