Great! Now I can get to Columbus a half an hour later than it would take me to drive, and I will have no transportation when I get there! Much like the Indians hiring Manny Acta, someone needs to lose their job over this boondoggle!

We'll soon catch up with the rest of the world and have mag-rail running 200+ mph. We need to take it one step at a time, but I'm sure you already know that 200mph trains are becoming more common.

Saving 15-30 minutes on a train is not what piques my interest ... not having to keep my eyes on the road, spend money on gas, and being able to browse the internet or watch TV/movies while commuting would.

The Fed money will be a drop in bucket of total costs and will milk state tax money as I would think the 3C will cost billions to build and ridership fares will be subsidized by tax payers to keep fares low. I think Americans love their cars and just think you will get mass switch to form of transportation. People that travel by train will likely pay parking fee and would need to pay for taxis to be transported to where they are going. Where will Ohio and these other states get the money to pay for this huge project? In my town (Charlotte)they've built a light rail and they project the first 11 mile segment to cost $1.12Billion. With the length of the 3C Rail the cost will be off the charts but no one ever figures out how this will get paid for it seems like everyone jumps on board because the Fed is picking up the first $400M. Unfortunately NC has been given $545M for Raleigh/CLT corridor and the free spending libs in government will probably take the bait.

^^^^Couldn't have said it better myself. Spending billions on a train maybe 2% of the population at best will ever use. But you idiots got your slow train to decaying cities, don't worry about the other dozens of crisises facing Ohio right now, let's build a train!

I'd rather spend billions on a train system even if 2% of the population uses it vs. trillions on Bush/Cheney oil wars.

Forget the fact that Europe and Asia have bullet trains that put America's rail system to shame. Let's remain the usual complaining and complacent state that we've become. I bet the same people who are opposing this progress in Ohio are the same ones who attack those Ohioans who are looking to relocate out of the state and move to states where actual progress is being made and opportunities/jobs being created. Some of us are sick of the stone age that Ohio has been stuck in for decades.

The biggest "crisis" we have in Ohio right now is that we have to undo the damage of the Taft years. God forbid that Ohio enter the 21st century for anything or actually go from decaying cities to thriving cities. Change has to start somewhere; unfortunately, if it doesn't benefit the ultra-rich or special interest groups in Ohio, then it can't be good.

I feel giddy knowing that Ohio actually received some federal stimulus money to do something; all I'm used to is paying out taxes and never seeing anything in return. It's nice to see something positive happening in Ohio (and FOR Ohio) for a change.

P.S. - all the people who oppose/d this as well as legalized gambling should move to some remote corners of Ohio where they can live in their insulated, hermetically-sealed little world while the rest of the state moves ahead with progress.

You are 100% right. My son just came back after being a year in S. Korea/Japan, and he was amazed how extensive and efficient their rail system is. In Japan, the trains are fast and run every four minutes. He sort of balked at the 79 miles per hour that Ohio's trains are expected to go, but I told him that this is a great start, especially when you're going from NOTHING to something. Our family is very happy that Ohio has been granted the federal stimulus money and the opportunity to actually do something positive for the future of Ohio.

You idiots still don't get it. NO ONE WILL RIDE THIS TRAIN! Ok let me break it down so even a public school student can understand it. Say your uncle gave you 20 bucks to open up a lemonade stand, but the lemonade stand costs 100 bucks a week to run, and no one in your neighborhood likes lemonade. That's what this is akin too! This train will cost several hundred million, if not billions more to build and maintain, and no one is going to ride a train that takes longer to get there than driving, period point blank! This has been proven time and again across the country. We are not Europe, we are America, we drive places, it will always be like that. The only place trains work is the NE corridor, other than that, they are a complete waste of money.

So to sum up, unless this train goes 200 mph, don't build it!

good question jrc.. i think for an initial train to be effective columbus,cinci and dayton will need to have a smooth transition after the riders leave the stations.. ie- shuttles,trolly,streetcars,bus,light-rail. if you have to rent cars or pay taxis to get around the cost will keep people in their cars.
