I was looking to plan a trip to the lake Erie Islands. Its a family trip, so I'm not looking for party towns. Ideally it would be a town with cute shops and restaurants, kayaking/bike rental, sunset boat tours, etc. Something like Traverse City, Mackinaw, Charlevoix in MI.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Vermillion is probably what you want, not too far from the islands. Geneva on the Lake is further east but it’s awesome.

Sandusky is a great little town with the usual lake amenities and the Cedar Point amusement park.

All of the East of Cleveland lake towns, esp. Geneva. In fact, all of the towns between Geneva and just SW of Buffalo. Charming little wine towns, etc. A great summer drive.
West of Cleveland to Toledo is fine, but it ain't the same.
Oops I just read the question. Well anyway, my post is added info. It's Friday!

Venture inside Lakeside Chautauqua near Marblehead. There's a gate admission, but once inside you'll find everything you're looking for.

West of the islands is a nice little drive along Route 2, with wonderful nature preserves fronting the lake.
