I was born and raised in Alexandria and it's interesting to hear transplants talk negatively about it.

....and the natives there are snobby towards outsiders.

I know there are some old established families in Alexandria, but I hardly know any "natives" in my neighborhood. In fact, with my having lived in Northern Virginia since the 1970s, I'm kind of an oddity. I know some people who grew up in Fairfax County, very few who grew up in Alexandria itself, and most I know have moved here from other states (there seems to be a great migration from western Pennsylvania to here).

And we aren't all snobby with each other or "outsiders" - considering most are outsiders, themselves.

Perhaps it's different in Old Town. I'm speaking of Del Ray and Rosemont.

^Yes, while some level of "elitism" may exist in Old Town, the attitude does it pervade the city nor is it necessarily exclusive to it in this area.

I'm adaptable somewhat - but not without limit. As an adult, I lived in Jacksonville FL and hated it, adored Baltimore (in two different center city nabes), was okay with NW Alexandria, and have been mostly okay with FFX county.

what means does it take to frequent Old Town? My wife and I typically go there to walk. Cost - the gasoline to get there from Annandale. And a couple of months ago I biked there from Annandale.
