OK, say I get on the toll road at Loundon Parkway and exit at the Herndon/Monroe Park & Ride. This will still cost me the same $3.40 as if I drove all the way to the end of the toll road?

Heading eastbound, if you get on at Loudoun County Parkway, you'll pay $4.15 ($4.75 6:30-9:00am and 4:00-6:30pm) to pass through the toll plaza. ($0.75 of that toll is to enter the Dulles Toll Road.) It does not matter where you get on. The ride all the way from Leesburg is the same price.

Here is the full toll schedule: Dulles Greenway (http://www.dullesgreenway.com/toll_rates.shtml - broken link)

This is why there is so much congestion on Loudoun County Parkway and Waxpool - lots of people leaving Ashburn use these roads to get to 28 and then get on the Dulles Toll Road there for $0.75.

Still not sure I understand, but thanks. So if I get on at Loundon and get off at the Park & Ride it is $4.75 each way ($9.50) to use the tollway a total of 8 miles. You almost make it sound like entering at 28 costs ONLY $0.75 to use the tollway to the Park & Ride?

If I was coming from the GWU-Virginia Campus area, would it make more sense to travel Hwy 7 to 7100 and then south to Sunrise Valley to the Park & Ride?

Edited to add: I now realize that I am confusing the Greenway with the 267 Toll Road. Sorry.

Yep, entering at 28 circumvents the Greedway, so you're only paying the $0.75 Dulles Toll Road toll (which is also only for one exit's worth of driving, since the Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride is the next exit). Also, if you're coming from Route 7, you don't have to deal with the cluster#$@! that is Waxpool.

The other route you mentioned would be totally free, but that's a lot of lights on Route 7 (not to mention traffic on 7 and on Fairfax County Parkway - but I don't really know how bad it is during rush hour).

The $1.50 round trip on 28 is like the "middle" option - not totally free, but possibly worth it to avoid 7 and 7100.
