When setting up auto payment, it only allows bank account as payment method.

But I would like to use 5% credit card as payment method (manually pay the bill when it becomes available).

At the meanwhile, I would like to set up auto payment as well, in case that I forget to manually pay the bill with credit card. If I forget, at least it will deduct from my bank account, and there is no late payment fee.

Question: If I set up autopay with bank account (on due date), and if I manually pay the bill with credit card way before due date, will it still deduct statement balance from my bank account on due date? If so, that is double payments.

Thanks.

Why would you even care to set up auto-pay if you are going to pay manually?

As I said, I may forget to manually pay the bill (sometimes I am busy, sometimes due to bad memory).

My intention is to pay manually (using credit card), but not guaranteed that I will remember to do so for every single bill.

Auto pay is just in case that I forget to pay manually, then auto pay setting can deduct balance from bank account.

There's a very easy way around this problem. You do own a calendar, right? It could be an app on your phone, on a computer, even an old fashioned paper type hanging on the wall. Use it! Set up a water bill pay reminder that automatically sends you an email or text on the same day of each month to jog your bad memory. Then send your payment right while you're thinking about it! Have the reminder arrive far enough in advance so your payment (paper check, cash, bank transfer, whatever you prefer) will arrive on the due date. Some utilities send customers an email reminding them their current bill's due date is coming up if they haven't received a payment.

Personally, I prefer not to use auto pay for bills that vary from month to month. I prefer to check the account's outstanding balance and/or usage before paying it. I will use auto pay for recurring payments that don't vary (mortgage, rent, etc.). I have reminder notices for my recurring monthly bills set up like this. Literally never miss paying one.
