I’ve heard the south starts below Raleigh, NC. At this rate, the south will be constrained between SC and GA on the east coast within the next 2 decades lol.

Was about to say that these are so arbitrary- it has gone from Northern Virginia (as recently as 1980s/ early 90s), to Fredericksburg, to Richmond, to the VA/NC Line, to Raleigh and now moving even farther down. Let's just go with Fayetteville, NC or Florence, SC and call it a day. The number one place for people pouring into Wilmington and Myrtle Beach is NY, NJ and Connecticut.

Wondering why someone cares.... Live and let live - we don't live in a world of yankees, etc. anymore.

I was listening to a podcast the other day and the host was saying how everyone knows that the south starts at Richmond on down… which made me chuckle because I’m so used to seeing this debated-500-million-times argument on here it’s funny hearing it in real life.

When I lived there in the 80's and 90's... I always considered 'the line' to be Richmond.

Mainly because that was generally the sweet tea line. In and south of Richmond, you ask for sweet tea, you get it

North. They bring you tea and sugar packets.

NOT THE SAME! lol

IMO, just being a visitor so my perspective is as an outsider.

Nova = northern

Virginia Beach= I dunno what to call Norfolk and VA Beach. Maybe "anytown USA?" I think the huge military presence plays a role in this region as a transition zone of not really having strong characteristics of anything. I think anytown USA is a good description.

Blue ridge Mts, Roanoke, Chincoteague, Richmond, Petersburg, wytheville etc = all south

Big jump from NOVA to Richmond. What about Charlottesville or Fredericksburg? Are the Northern or Southern? (No, I don’t think either is part of NOVA.)

I'd still consider Fredericksburg part of NOVA--maybe not greater DC, but definitely northern VA. If you look at a map of VA, it's clearly more towards the northern end than the southern. Also, lots of people who work in/around DC live in Fredericksburg.

I'm with you on Richmond not being northern. I'd consdier it to be a hybrid of North/South. Once you get to NC, you're in the South, but not deep south.

No you’re giving in now. Let the “south is gonna rise again” crowd keep diminishing their geographical reach. It is actually hilarious.

Beauregard fetch me my sweet tea. I better not have to stir in my own sugar either Beauregard.
