I'm guessing gov't vehicles don't have an EZ-pass because of the billing issues. Who would pay in the case of a toll?

Better solution would be for someone just to get a personal one and take it with on the trip. Not the intended use of course, but really, what is the worst that would happen?

It's against the rules of the EZ Pass, but I don't know what they do about it.

It's actually not against the rules of EZ Pass to move a transponder from vehicle to vehicle as long as the vehicles are in the same class. See question 40 of the link below:

Interesting change. I'm recalling that the pass had to be used in a car that it was registered to be used in.

Update... I called EZPass and was advised to call a different number to request a "Non-Revenue" Pass for official Government uses.

We move our transponder all the time. Called EZ Pass and they don't have a problem with it although they'd *like* all cars in use to be registered even if you don't have a pass assigned to a specific car. They will even send you extra mounting strips if you need them so you can move it around.

That's what I do. I have both of my cars registered to a single transponder. Works out great.

The bus is the most expensive option for me

No way it is more expensive than at least $15 tolls a day (and that's being very, very conservative). I didn't mean just bus though, there's also VRE or carpooling too.

There are no public transit buses from Fredericksburg to DC. I'd have to take the Martz bus which is even more expensive than VRE. Cheapest option by far is slugging, but then I still have to drive 20 miles to the park and ride.
