Well. at least there's a GRANT street in Arlington near Pentagon City.

The New Orleans school board recently re-named a Washington School there because George Washington was a slaveholder.

Heh... back when I lived in Columbia, MO, my apartment was roughly equidistant from two elementary schools called "Grant" and "Lee," respectively. I suppose it makes sense, considering that this was in Missouri.. but I *would* expect "Lee" to have a much higher enrollment.

Default New info

some things I did not know

1. The change of the name of Old Jeff Davis highway to Long Bridge Drive WAS done because some arlington elected officials, notably including Chairman of the arlington bd Zimmerman, didnt like Jeff Davis.

2. Changing the name of of Jeff Davis highway (IE Rte 1) in Arlington is not in Arlington's control, but is in Richmond's control (I'm not sure how Fairfax managed to get its part of Rte 1 called Richmond Highway)

I suppose that would change if NoVa seceded from Virginia. Of course Richmond would never allow that. Ironically.

Jefferson Davis was actually born in Kentucky about 50 miles from where Abraham Lincoln was born>

Interesting. It appears that there is quite the debate of where Abe was born - North Carolina or Kentucky. This could be an intriguing topic under the Great Debates forum.

I posted about it once on the history forum but it didn't generate much interest.
