There use to be a place right by the mall in scranton, years ago. I remember going there with my dad. Then there was another good place on Rt6 Scranton hobby, I think it was. I was just at Grzyboski's Train Store - Pennsylvania's Largest Lionel Train Dealer - 'O' Scale Lionel, MTH, K-Line, Atlas, Ertl, Life-Like, and Bachmann Trains Seems like a real nice place and friendly people. Prices are a bit high! Good Luck!

when i lived there i enjoyed "the train shoppe" on penn ave in w-b. there is also walter's hardware on coal street, but i'm not sure they carry lionel. they are very close and both are worth a visit.

Lionel Model Train | Lionel Trains | MTH Trains | Lionel Train Set | MTH Electric Train

their website is not nearly as impressive as the store.

Yes yes!! The smoke would only last a few min's and I remember my dad always getting made at me for putting more pills in to see it smoke again. O they were the good old days.. One nice thing about the old trains. Is it always brings you back to when you were a kid!! No matter how old you get.

From a model train yakfest....

"Prior to 1957, smoking steam locomotives used pellets, but cut up aspirin tablets work just as well, and often really smoke even better, as pellets haven't been produced in decades. After 1957, fluid was used for smoke, still used today. Lionel still can be a quality product, but the older production from the '50s used more metal in the construction, and is more durable."
