Looking into relocating and one of the places that we are looking into is North Dakota. Heard so many great things about the cost of living and the people but concerned that getting around will be a problem as I do not drive and need to rely on the transit system. Also looking fo good schools and neighborhoods.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dee

All 4 of the bigger cities in North Dakota offer some form of public transportation....i.e. bus system/routes. Most run during the day only with the need for a dial a ride service or taxi during the night and weekends.

The 4 cities I am talking about in pop order are Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, and Minot. Of those Minot is the cheapest to live in apartment rent wise. Bismarck is growing a lot and so is Fargo. I live and work in the Grand Forks area and numerous apartments have been built as well with a new one for handicap assessible people. There are no real bad spots in any ND town (like in SD) so any town would be fine to live in...and all school districts in ND are excellent.

Thanks for your reply Dan! Wondering if North Dakota welcomes new comers. I am asking as by present experience this seems to not be the case.

I moved up here from Kentucky in 1998 and I would say most definitely yes people welcome you. Of course, all depends on your own definition of welcoming... The majority of residents had ancestors that came to ND from either Scandanavia (northeast half) or Germany (Germans from Russia). The tendency of folks up here are to be a bit reserved but one they know you they will help you out anyway they can and will also help out strangers. They wont break down the door to come meet you, but if you are the more agreessor and meet and say hi to them, then they are great. But of course, people come in all types and just depends who you meet.

In my time here, I find the tendency of people here to play down the area and state and ask a newcomer, why would you want to come here. Natural tendency I think for many to downplay where they live as something special.
