I just want to say I'm considering moving to North Carolina and this thread is exactly what I'm wondering as well, whether it's acceptable and inclusive of black people. The first reply in this thread is dismissive and ignorant to the point of being offensive. Some people just don't understand.
Thanks for the information about African Americans having more political representation in Charlotte. One of the cities im considering is Charlotte. I'll be following the thread closely.
Just ignore that poster and his reply. That's his shtick
Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Winston-Salem, and Greensboro are all good cities for blacks in my opinion.
Many locals who are white find it very offensive for someone who does not know much about this area to IMMEDIATELY bring up race and racial issues . As said why bring race into it ?

Throughout history black people havent been able to safely live anywhere we want. We get targeted, thrown out, discriminated against, lynched, subject to "sundown" laws and have little economic and or political power and representation in many places across the country particularly in the south and parts of the Midwest. Again, you don't understand the history and why black people in general, not just one person, have to go out of our way to research a place before we can move ourselves and families there.

I think it may be more about BEHAVIOR than just race....

Because for people of color race IS a thing. It's not about your hurt feelings.
Yiuppy, I see you are in Alexandria. It's not much different here in NC than it is in Virginia, except I would say we have more black representation and inclusivity in the middle of the state because we have larger cities there. In rural SW VA you will find communities with a low black population and in the rural western part of NC you have less black population, but there are still black folks in the cities like Asheville and Boone. More black folks outside of the mountains, though.
