I recently purchased a car from someone and the NC title has their name notarized but where you print the buyers name is someone who ended up not buying the car. The buyers name wasn't signed or notarized. What can I do to get this title in my name? Thanks in advance for any replies.

The only recourse is for the seller to apply for a duplicate title from NC DMV and start over again with you as the buyer. Once a buyers name is written on the title it has to be transferred to that person. The buyers name isn't notarized anyway, only the seller, so that irrelevant.

I hope you can get the seller to cooperate on this, because otherwise you're can't title or register this car.

The DMV might disagree but I think ...

If the seller draws a single line through the mistake and initials it, then re-writes the correct name (yours) it should be good. This is standard practice because people make mistakes and it holds up legally for most anything else. I would think it would be OK for a title as well.

DMV will absolutely not allow this.

i'm agreeing with Edward Teach here. You're going to have to ask the person who sold you the car to get a dupe title. Good luck.
