You can create your own profile such as you described right here on City-Data, as you know because you have done it. And you can talk to people via direct messages.
Perhaps you are obliquely referring to the fact that so many folks either do not put any information in their profiles or have restricted the viewing of their profiles to "friends". I have often wondered why so few people put anything in their profiles. It may be out of the desire to keep their real identities private, which is not a bad idea at all, but people don't have to include personally identifying information.
Speaking of profiles, I noticed an oddity in yours. I assume your listed height (183) and weight (104) are in centimeters and kilograms respectively. Most Americans will not be able to relate to those numbers, and most members of City-Data are Americans. They will understand 6 feet, zero inches and 229 pounds.
unfortunately myspace is more or less an entertainment venue now.
