Are there any stores left in Manhattan for second-hand magazines, back issues and such?
I ran across a batch of old but pristine New Yorker magazines, and I hate to just toss them in the trash. There used to be a great place called A&S, I think, in the west 40s, but they closed a few years ago.
A&S was great, and there was a place in the East Village in a basement that I think is gone now too. I can't remember the name of it, it was on E. 9th I think...you used to just wander in and there were stacks and stacks of magazines...most of the time I never even saw anyone working there. The last time I went {which was years ago}, someone stopped me as I was walking in and asked what I wanted. So I think they may be gone...
If you have't yet found a place, and are willing to give the magazines away, rather than sell them: Go to The Freecycle Network
and look for a Freecycle group in your area.
The site lets people give away or get used items for free (often the kind of things that are hard to unload and that thrift shops don't want: magazines, books, old tech stuff, housewares, pet gear, etc.)
You just get on the list, post wants/needs, and arrange for in-person pickup.
If you have some old magazines you may want to check out the advertisements in the magazines and see if people are selling similar stuff on Ebay. A friend unloaded his moms home when she passed away. He decided to sell the old magazines on Ebay. Turns out someone bought his magazines to get the adverrtisements that were worth much more than the entire collection of magazines. Worth a try anyway.
