Why is this your concern? If they were Scandinavian, would you be upset?

No, because Scandinavians are civilized and come from developed situations. They wouldn't be doing stuff like this.

Of course you don't see the point. There should be a definitive meaning of what middle class is, but there's not. And the reason why is because it doesn't exist. If a middle class even existed, then you and 90sSitcom would be in agreeement of what a middle class is, but your opinions differ. It's really nothing more to it. Ask what makes someone poor and everyone will have the same answer. Haha.
It’s self evident that when a range is provided, it doesn’t cover 100% of all cases. If you can’t or don’t want to comprehend that, I can’t help.

Of course there’s a definition of middle class but an income range, by definition, isn’t definitive. This lesson is gratis. I’ll charge for the next one.

There are only 2 classes, the ones that make the laws (ruling class aka patricians) and the ones that don't (working class aka plebeians)
You can call yourself whatever type of class you want to make yourself feel better, doesn't make any difference to me.

Whatever helps you sleep at night
No such thing as middle class
It's a construct. Either you're the ruling class or you're not.

Good luck. Let me ask you a question, are you even trying to expand your earning potential to move up to the next class from where you currently are?

Of course. Always. My wife and I earn about 50% more today than we did in 2019. I just did taxes on Friday so it’s fresh in my mind.

Out of those who still work, who doesn’t except for those who’ve given up and are content with state subsidies?

Inflation over the past 5 years has been a compounded 30%. If you don’t earn at least 30% more today than 5 years ago, you’ve taken a pay cut.
