Yesterday there was a live healthy looking pigeon inside a hallway (not on the first floor) apt. bldg. There was one window open slightly on the floor that it happened. So one can assume it flew in and out that way. Has anyone else encountered something like that in a multistory apt. bldg here in NYC?

This constantly happens at my job with various birds, including pigeons, and squirrels. We close the door to whatever room the bird is in and make sure a window is open. It'll eventually fly out, usually in a couple of hours at most. For the squirrels we need our exterminator to come, he lays a baited cruelty-free trap and releases them back outside on the grounds.

I am used to roaches and years ago a mouse or two. But the pigeon was a new one for me!

Happens all the time. Was far more common with older buildings such as tenements that had windows in common areas such as hallways that faced out onto courtyards or other open areas.

Quite honestly any building with open windows will get birds of all sorts flying in. Office buildings, multi-family, businesses, any sort really.
