How N.Y.C.-Style Bagels Made It Big in London
Bakeries selling big, doughy bagels have opened to rave reviews in Britain, but some traditionalists are standing by the London “beigel.”
“What’s an ‘everything bagel?’” It’s a question that Georgia Fenwick-Gomez, a co-owner of Papo’s Bagels in the East London neighborhood of Dalston, hears a lot, as customers stare blankly at a menu with words including “schmear,” “scallion” and “lox.”
As Mr. Martensen discovered soon after opening It’s Bagels!, recreating a New York bagel shop in London is about more than just the bagels themselves. He encourages his staff to shout orders across the shop, something that does not come naturally to British employees, he said. https://dnyuz.com/2024/03/08/crusty-...big-in-london/
The steering wheels and the driving is on the wrong side, they spell theater as theatre or center as centre, they speak English with a funny accent… Things are different across the pond.

Not many places carry them and if so in limited numbers.
Sunflower flat is my favorite. Yummy.
Hands down NYC makes the best bagels.
Also, NYC makes the best rolls, italian bread..etc.
Everywhere else it's droopy. No crust, limp, too chewy.
It's the water plain and simple.
100% agree. The bread and such out here in the Poconos is trash. I bring it home from the Bronx when I'm on campus for work. It's definitely the water. Bleech.
I loved bialys and those are hard to come by even in the city now.
Was there in January. There were a handful of bagel shops that had never been there before. Overall, not bad tasting, overall smaller in size and plainer in taste.
