Guys - tried getting this info from 311, wasn't successful. Does anybody know if there's any rule forbidding usage of the same plate number for multiple people? We use a single car for 2 families

Thanks

If person that is handicapped is in the car, use it. If person who is handicapped is not in the car, do not use it!

Yes I understand that and most of the time none of the 2 people will be in the vehicle so we rarely use it outside of medical appointments for them. Person 1 already has the hash tag and before submitting an application for Person 2, I wanted to make sure the same NYS Plate on the application won't cause any issues

Oh I see so you need it for 2 people. One in each family. And both families use the same car.

One car two families ?

Avoid double insurance as it may lead to an unpaid claim in the event of an accident.

Would not advise 2 families sharing one car.

Notice the application is for a person, not a vehicle. A person may get a hang tag (not a hashtag) or a license plate. If there is more than one person who qualifies, hang tags would be better. Use the hang tag only when the person for whom the tag is issued is in the car.

Disability hang tags are issued for the person who has the disability.

Ownership and registration of the vehicle in which the tag will hang is irrelevant.

No plate number is required to file for a disability parking waiver hang tag.

The person to whom the hang tag is issued is free to use the hang tag in any vehicle in which he or she is riding.
