As the title states. Seems the professional panhandlers were replaced by violent drug and alcohol addicted mental patients.
It's winter, they've gone back to their day jobs or wherever the eff they came from for now. Wait until warmer weather, they will be back.
There was some chick with a sign that went on about how she was expecting, homeless, blah, blah, blah. Saw her all over UES, UWS, Midtown, Hell's Kitchen for nearly over a year. Her figure never seemed to change nor saw any evidence of a kid.

Ones who get on subway trains telling their sad tales of woe and misery are still about. You can tell legit homeless or whoever because they ask for and will take anything; food, drink, money... Hardcore ones who only want cash are often SOL.
Don't think panhandlers in general realize today many people just don't carry cash or coins. Everything is digital.
Unless going out to a bar or someplace and want cash for tips rarely have anything on me. Why would I? Can pay for everything with a CC, app or whatever. Last shoe fell when parking meters, tolls and so forth went to CC or cashless payment.
I had a guy near me who was very professional about it. Made sure to introduce himself to everyone, and actually tried to engage them. Was in the neighborhood for years, if not decades. At some point he fell onto the subway tracks and had both his legs cut off, and was still panhandling in his wheelchair. But I haven't seen him in a while, now.
When I was growing up and even into the late Bloomberg years there were professional panhandlers (mainly in Manhattan). There were regular stories on them and how they made up to $200/day (if I remember correctly). They since seem to have been replaced by insane and violent homeless drug addicts and alcoholics.
So even the quality of panhandlers is declining under Adams.
tsk tsk.
The decline started under BDB. Adams is just making things even worse because, and no one would have believed this before he took power, Adams is even more incompetent than BDB.
I haven't seen these pro panhandlers post COVID. Traffic died out in the city so they probably moved on. When they came back, they probably realized they had to fight ht insane homeless for their prior lucrative spots.

Let's say someone was able to rake in $200 per day begging.
That's $6k for 30 days work.. Or about $72,850 per year using $1,400 per week ($200 x 7)
