I'm listening, the stage is yours
Convince us to vote Republican
We're listening

At the end of the day, people are going to start questioning why are you really here
If Republican is so good, tell us why
If you can't then that says it all
And don't feel bad about it, you just don't know any better
Republicans don’t have to be so good. As long as they are not Democrats, we have already made progress. Right now, just staying put beats sliding backwards.

Well then I'm not convinced

One of my colleagues had a child 6+ months ago with his (unofficial) wife. They've been together for 15+ years and live together. They both work but probably don't make much money by NYC standards. She works retail so I'm guessing $30 -$40K/year? He probably makes $50 -$60K.
I was talking to him about his baby and he just straight up tells me that they're officially *separated* so that she can still claim all of the city handouts.
He's not a bad gu (in fact, he's a very good, family oriented guy) but the system forces him to do this. If they get officially married and claim $100K of income, they not only get nothing but would pay at least 10 - 15% in income taxes per year.
What should I tell him? That long term, he's probably consigning his child to the same lifestyle because people get hooked on the handouts and are afraid to get off? It's terrifying for many to survive on their own when they can have the comfort of some minimum guarantees so they rather take the handouts than strive for better. It's a rotten system.
This is just one example. I can give you many more from personal, first-hand experience.
What handouts is she getting at $30-40K?

How long have you lived in NYC? Did you come here last week? This is like living in NYC 101. Unless you’re a transplant in tech or banking, you have to know. I refuse to believe you don’t know.
