I well aware of the USC. Did the Civil War end slavery as we knew it in this country?

I answered that in post # 39:

What are Black people's interests?

As mentioned in previous thread about this topic, the first enslaved Africans came to what is now Manhattan in 1626 via the Dutch. So, technically, the black presence in NYC/NYS has a longer history with enslavement than it does without it.

Wall Street ironically named after the fortress built by enslaved Africans, which were later traded there. Hence, enslaved Africans were the first commodities sold/trade on the market. So, there is a history in the state of the economy having ties to the slave trade/enslavement system.

How the committee comes about tying that history with a form of economic repair, which is where the word reparations comes from, will be interesting. I honestly think that ideas more in line with community/economic investment will come into play versus simply passing out actual money. I say that given that this topic can go beyond slavery and that there is actually a history of reparations given to other groups in the country. For example, the discussion about capping the Kensington Parkway in Buffalo is looking to mend back a neighborhood that is about 70-80% black. You may see more things like this come from the committee, as they may look at this from a standpoint of if our ancestors labor was actually compensated, this would mean more wealth and with that more power in relation to policy and other measures impacting our concentrated communities.

Lastly, I want to say that I think a lot of pushback isn’t just political, but I think we have to consider if this is viewed from a perspective of immigration versus forced labor. Meaning, are people attaching other experiences to this unique experience in a country known for freedom, but has an important group with a longer history of enslavement and real barriers that others likely didn’t have to consider or that haven’t been addressed. Essentially don’t conflate one sociopath-historical experience with another, especially when more and more information about that experience gets revealed for a group that has longer roots in this country in general/as a collective outside of only Native Americans.

I know people may not like this, but I also think this is why so much history isn’t taught and is hidden, as if it is known, then has to be confronted and it helps to manipulate things on a social level.
If reparations will be implemented, they need to start by exempting Black people from paying any type of taxes except sales tax for the next 250 years. Pay the free labor back. Imagine working and not getting paid for it.

I watched a documentary on YouTube earlier this year about the Great Migration of Blacks northward from Southern states to Chicago after the Reconstruction period of this country.

Blacks migrated for factory jobs, and often times were discriminated against for positions they were qualified to do. Black people promoted unity, and tried to move into neighborhoods, and were discriminated against. There were demonstrations for keeping Black people out of certain neighborhoods. This is why the West Side of Chicago turned into an overcrowded slum by the 1940s. No jobs and inadequate, overcrowded living conditions.

Also let's add Levittown, LI for measure. Municipalities all over this country had ordinances that instructed not to sell properties to Black people!

Yet in 2023, people still are talking about everyone's equal. The residual effects are clear as day to see. If someone does not want to recognize this, it is only due to their own ignorance. Residual effects.

Ha ha ha....Oh you're serious?. I'll laugh harder...LOL LOL!11!!

How do people prove they are descended from slaves? From what I understand black people can't even get ID's to vote.

Oh wait a minute...is this another 7th floor troll thread? I'm out.

The same as everyone else's. Democrats want you dependent upon them and in the ghetto.

Take Charles Barron. The best example. Forty or so years representing his area. What has he done for it? Gentrifiers did more to clean up that area in 5 years than he did in 40.

Good question. Where did Black people in this country get their last name from? We can start there.

You're using East New York as an example? Why not Owsley County, Kentucky? 98.7% White, and half the population is on government assistance, why not ask what the officials have going on over there? You can Google this info. 88% voted Republican in 2020.

Census records/genealogy would likely be used, as you have to keep in mind that enslaved persons were property that had to be annotated like other forms of property. This is why when enslavement ended, owners were compensated by the government and is another thing that isn’t told or taught regarding history. https://aas.princeton.edu/news/when-...ot-reparations
