This is my opinion
If you are looking to buy a home in NYC and you are a native
Buy property as close to NYCHA as possible
If you're a native you can do it
Stabilize your neighborhood
And don't be afraid of your neighborhood
Can't complain if you are not putting down roots
The key is to put down roots
If you want change you must do it yourself
Don't depend on anybody else

Keep dreaming.
Why would anyone but you want to waste their life making a bad neighborhood better. It’s a losing battle.
Unless you want to rent it out, in which case you must be insane with all the rental problems land lords deal with.
Life is too short to be wasting it on social experiments. Do what’s best for you and your family.
There is a reason lots of people commute from far away. They prefer better homes, better neighbors and backyards.

This thread was not meant for you Dave.

I'll do it for the chance that they get rid of those buildings and then surrounding property values go to the moon.
Can't worry about property values
If its going to not be a house but a home
If I'm staying there for 30-40 years what do I care
This is just about keeping a roof over your head

You bring up good points but I would leave the taste of adventure to young pioneers.
The only difference between the pioneers of today and yesterday is that pioneers back in
the days were allowed to carry guns and hunt .
Can't do that in N.Y.C. so I give a big thumbs down to living anywhere near high crime.

Make sure this talking point becomes a retort to anyone who tells a "non-model minority" to "clean up their neighborhood" as opposed to aspiring to move to Scarsdale, Saddle Brook or Jericho. Let them roll out the red carpet for anyone who goes to better neighborhoods for a better life.
