So I am looking to attend a series of art and museum events and showings in Manhattan and wherever else in the city that is new or notable to attend.

What are the best newsletters and social clubs to be linked up with to get the inside scoop and add a few events into my calendar? Also I mostly seek free or lower cost tickets since NYC has so much.

I would like to dip my toes into the local art scene to see what types of artsy people are in attendance and to explore something new in the city.

It could be museums and art galleries and exhibits, or lectures from prominent artists. My aim would be to find the best and most acclaimed works.

Any ideas how to get linked in to be updated with the best art or museum events to fill up my calendar?

Are you on Instagram? If so check out Thirsty Gallerina, she gives info on free gallery openings even with icons that show which ones have wine and bathrooms
Also it's not just art but secret_nyc is good too. https://www.instagram.com/secret_nyc/

There's also ArtCards which is a weekly email.

For lectures maybe get on mailing lists at places like Cooper Union, the Met and other places that have free stuff. Hope you already know this but you can get into the Met bascially for free as a NYC resident, just have to show an ID and give whatever donation you want - even 5 cents.

These suggestions are wonderful, thank you.

I am in Manhattan, I wonder if Brooklyns art scene is sequestered away from Manhattan. What areas of Brooklyn have art gallery districts or areas with the most art in Brooklyn?

This is coming from someone who lived in Brooklyn for about a decade but the majority of my times attending fun events or working was in Manhattan.

Bushwick is #1 but there are others like Industry City/Sunset Park.
