What about the garbage in the streets? Was it as bad?
I don't think the trash was that bad but if there are a lot of businesses that have left the area then there's no one around to complain to sanitation that the trash isn't being picked up
That looks like the Willet Point Blvd area in Flushing Meadows. That area has been an industrial eye sore even when I lived in Queens in the 1980s and 1990s.
I think the area was neglected for a long time because there has been talk of the city taking over the area for a long time. So private companies did not want to spend any more money on buildings then was absolutely necessary.
Plus the area sits on former marshland right next to Flushing Bay and the Flushing River making it increasingly prone to flooding. Honestly it should have been taken over for parkland years ago, its literally in the middle of Flushing Meadows.
