The last election, it seems the Dems won over the cities, big/small. The rural less dense counties are rep. It would look like NY is a rep state, but it about population. The counties with the big, and small cities have lots of the type that vote Dem, and swing the state over to them.

Same with NJ. Actually I willing to bet its mostly this way in all the states. States with heavy minorities metros will see Dem votes in those counties with those cities. As you move away from the minority communities, you get more Rep.

It amazes me that people are still surprised when NYC votes for the Democratic nominee.

Well, as of now it looks like Trump got 40% of New York's vote, and by county, most of the state has gone red. And this is Trump - the guy who is unquestionably divisive, doesn't understand science or the Constitution (good thing we have checks and balances, they really got put to the test in the last four years), and makes a habit of trying to starve NY of resources. I'd say that if any other Republican candidate were running against Biden this year, they would have carried the state without too much trouble.

If anything this election shows just how divided as a country we are. We really need someone in office to help the country and bring people together but sadly these two parties will continue to only think about themselves and continue the divide.

Actually Mr. Biden's short speech (about the state of the election results) yesterday was about country unity.

If Biden wins this country will be more divided than ever.

It's a repudiation of one party rule and that's good. I don't like it when one party is too overly dominant over another.

Republicans Have Big Election Night Gains in New York State. Democrats Say They Won’t Last.

It was a good election night for Republicans in New York state.

After much chest thumping about how new voting laws championed by Democrats would enable more Democrats to vote, those voters showed no particular loyalty to either party.

Republicans appear to have picked up seats in both the state Senate and Assembly

Yes. Some newspapers are putting up articles along the lines of "how did Trump do so well?! That means our democracy is in trouble!" but that's just not the way I see it. People voted red and blue for all kinds of reasons, some of which may be less than obvious. They all have the right to their opinion. And frankly neither candidate is a prize. It says something that one of them has already lost his home state, and the other one is going to either lose his, or win it only by the skin of his teeth. But all told, the fact that more people than ever turned out to vote despite coronavirus, long lines, and (sometimes) horrible weather is a pretty good thing. We've got to keep this up. Maybe if we do, three years from now we'll have better candidates win the primaries on both sides.
