i converted oil to gas and i got notice of violation for my cellar from gas meter inspector in long island. now DOB inspector is trying to come for inspection but i didn't let him come in. i have kitchen{ no stove) cabinet with sink, microwave and fridge. and three rooms without door. i have to sofa and TV. and i also have some shoes and clothes that i sell to make some extra money. i had bathroom but i removed toilet, sink because i didn't have permit . what should i do now? any suggestions. no one lives in my cellar but we use it as entertainment place.

Don't let the inspector in until they get a warrant which usually never happens. Unless you have a whole bunch of illegal stuff.

inspector came twice and i wasn't home. if he gets warrant and i am not home, will they break my door to come in?

I would install some security cameras if I were you. Just so you can document the damage when they bash in your door

Yes they can break down your door with a warrant but the police or firefighters will have to do that. If you haven't done anything illegal like drug dealing, kidnapping, killing people, you should be fine.

Can't they also fine him? They should by the way. What's the big f-ing deal??? Why can't you just let them in? People are incredible. You illegally converted oil to gas and now you're hiding out like a kid...

I didn’t convert illegally...oil to gas conversion I did through a company and I had permit for that ... it’s just that basement had kitchen cabinets without stove and inspector saw that because he was checking smoke detector

I am having a great experience living in a n illegal basement. My aptr caught fire the other night but it was OK . I also see rats and roaches all the time but thats not a big deal. I get to rent a basement in the middle of NYC close to all lines !! Love IT ~ She charges me 700$ a month. I have been there for 9 years
