Two robberies in Chinatown went down within blocks of each other on Sunday evening. Within less than an hour.
The first incident transpired at 9:50pm on Mott Street – between Kenmare and Broome – where a 71-year-old Asian male was mugged. The victim was reportedly punched in the face, then had his wallet and cell phone stolen.
Less than an hour later, a 62-year-old Asian male was attacked on Eldridge Street, between Broome and Grand. The criminal reportedly punched and kicked the victim, then stole his wallet.
Perpetrators for both crimes are reportedly Black males, roughly thirty years of age, and between 5’9″ and 6’0″ tall.

If you lived in crappy areas in NYC you would know that Asians are targets. When I was growing up racial slurs and bullying was a daily common occurance for Asians living in 'underrepresented minority" majority areas. This is pretty common street knowledge to the targets and the predators. Its sad to see that this is still going on after decades.

Maybe ghetto people who live in the projects pick on them, but Asians certainly aren't the only ones to get mugged.
And that's not true necessarily, it would depend which "non-Asian majority-minority" neighborhood you're referring to.
I do think it's very unfortunate that such bullying still occurs, but I have to imagine it's gotten better since the 90s.

Dude you grew up in LI. I experienced first hand how it was in NYC. Which area wasn't like that? I can even tell you from experience that kids start becoming racists right around 3rd grade well at least that's when the racial slurs start. But I'm sure things are better nowadays overall due to many Asians doing well economically.

No I was not denying your experience, I was just saying that not all NYC neighborhoods with blacks and/or Hispanics are hotbeds of Asian bullying. For one, I would say Asians and Hispanics often live in the same neighborhoods or neighboring neighborboods, generally in peace.
I was gonna say things are better now due to Asian youth getting along better with other minorities these days, and NYC being way less ghetto now than even 20 years ago.
