Does everyone who gets this job do the same work? I'm 41 and not really in good shape due to asthma.
I guess everyone takes turn of being drivers?

I'm leaning of not taking this exam.
Unfortunately while there are other things to do besides pick up garbage all day, they require seniority to get to choose to do so at first you're going to be picking up garbage all day in heat, cold, rain, snow, hurricanes, alien invasions, and tsunamis. Probably in the Bronx or north Manhattan.

They are other jobs inside the department of sanitation besides picking up garbage. Picking up garbage Collection it's something the new guys won't see for a while. I was 41 when I started this job and I'm doing just fine I have not had a bad day yet. I have a friend in a Brooklyn garage that started in his 50s and he loves it. TAKE THE TEST!

Started in his 50s? That's rough, I'll be retired before that lol. Gotta plan well to take that kind of pay cut at that time

Ha seriously. I honestly don't get these guys taking this specific job at 50 years old. I'm already worrying about how much of my body is going to be destroyed and I can retire at 47. To just come on at that age or older is mind boggling. So retire in your 70's and then what? Guys like that are going to either die on the job or shortly after leaving. I'm looking forward to enjoying my later years of life not actually having to work and pick up tons of garbage everyday.

Hi SanPeople, have any of you on the job heard of someone you work with that was Psychologically DQ'd to work with NYPD? Being that it's the same city and I'm too crazy to be a Police Officer, would I have a problem getting in with DSNY bc of that? Thank you for your answers..

Certain meds will disqualify you. Bat**** crazy with no meds, there is no psych test to fail. Welcome to the DSNY. Sounds like supervisor material.
