Hi
i am a photographer and looking for interesting/safe towns to photograph near NYC for the weekend. Anywhere within 3hr drive would be great.
Any suggestions?

CT? NY? NJ?

No where in the North East, US is that safe. But if your from NY you should already have enough street smarts to stay out of bad areas anywhere you go.

How about a nice drive out to the Port Jefferson area on the north side of Long Island. There are nice photo ops and you won't even feel near NYC. Of course there is a small port and lots of private boats docked there. A nice street full of cool little shops and a restaurant called Tiger Lily Cafe. 7 or so miles east is Lewin Farms, with a pumpkin patch and fresh apple cider.

Depending on how and from where you travel, it's about 2 hours or so.

I only went out there once but it was last month and was a great escape.

Bottom line is that I think you could shoot lots of pix out there.

I second the Port Jefferson idea.

Also how about the Montauk at the end of the southern tip of Long Island?

Actually sorry, no, it wasn't: The Stanley Hotel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

North Fork of Long Island is beautiful with miles of vineyards. Upstate a bit is nice too--around Peekskill/Cold Spring/Fishkill--both are about a 2 hour drive.

speaking of the N Shore, i am looking for a place on the sound mid way between Pt Jefferson and the NY area where you can see Stamford and maybe Bridgeport in one direction and say Co-op City and the bridges in the other direction. something on the sound affording a spectacular view

Area by Northport is just as nice. Check out the view from the hill on James St. just past the village.
