I think the dismantling off the Third Ave elevated in 1973 was an attempt to cut off the area of services, because the decay had already started.

The decay had definitely started, but it had nothing to do with the train. However once it was removed was when the decay accelerated and the lack of public transportation sealed its fate.

Whitlock that was 20 years and a lifetime ago for the Bronx in many ways..why are you bringing that up?

That's the South Bronx that I remember, just empty lots. And I thought that was normal! Those lots are filled now with 2 and 3 family suburban style homes for the most part...with working/middle class owners. What a change. That pic could be anytime from the early 80s to mid 90s...so not applicable today.

If I had to guess I would say that's somewhere in Morrisania, along the 2/5 line maybe between Freeman and 174th (west side of train). But I can't really tell..the only markers are the tall white buildings in the background. And I don't recognize them.

You have anything more recent? I think we can find just as many examples of nicely developed/maintained areas of the South Bronx as we can of decay. Which is probably the first time we can say that in the past 35 or 40 years.
