I was thinking about this house. Since kid go to college, school district is not a major concern. Is Piscataway safe? I looked at the crime rate, and see there were 4 shootings in 2016. Should I be worried?
Is Day Park closeby good for walking?

I live in piscataway and I feel safe, and it looks like those 3 shootings are the same occurrence unless there were 3 on the same day

This area is OK. Across the lake near the Plainfield border is where it gets bad.

Piscataway in general is a very safe area to live. Sections that are very close to Plainfield are bit shady. Otherwise, you are double OK

The real question is ...

Is Piscataway safe from you?

It does not "get bad" across the lake near Plainfield. You make it sound like it's some hellhole and it's not. I've lived there for 4 years and have never had a problem. Left my car unlocked overnight on several occasions and nothing was stolen. Never felt unsafe. People really need to update their perception of this part of Piscataway.

Piscataway is very safe. I live near the south plainfield/Dunellen border and it's so convenient to everything. I have yet to find any "bad areas" here.

I live in south plainfield right on the the piscataway border and a mile away from Plainfield NJ. It is a VERY safe town and I have never heard of any major crime in my area

We decided against a house in Scotch Plains because it sat on the border with North Plainfield. One block north and west, and the derelict houses and empty commercial was a turn-off. It might have been "safe", but wasn't the kind of neighborhood we were looking for. South Plainfield has a totally different feel. It's hard to tell what people's threshold might be.

I'd tell the OP to drive around, spend some time in the area eating and shopping, see what they think.
