i'm looking to get rid of appliances in essex county from my kitchen. majority are in like-new condition, with the exception of the dishwasher (oldest appliance in the kitchen). other than craigslist, anyone know good ways?
That's tough, I ran into the same thing a year or so ago when we replaced our washer and dryer in a home we had just bought. The dryer was only a couple years old and in great shape, but the washer was really old and basically trash. We ended up buying a stackable front loading pair to save space in the laundry room. I opted not to have Sears haul off the old dryer figuring I could sell it or give it to someone who needed it. We held onto it for several months with no luck giving it (the two people who wanted it needed gas and this was electric) or selling it to anyone and it ended up in the trash.
During that time I contacted a couple small appliance sales/repair places and they said that they do buy old appliances, but that they weren't interested in mine unless it was gas (apparently old style electric dryers are a dime a dozen, lol). So, that may be a decent place to try and sell them. Ultimately, you may just be better off letting the company that is bringing the new ones haul them away and be done with it.
There must be some market for them; when I had my kitchen renovation done the hood and oven definitely didn't end up in the dumpster. But they might have just been used for scrap.
got 2 emails so far on a 1 day old craigslist post. fridge and stove. microwave and dishwasher, getting no bites. worst case, i'll leave them on the curb and someone will take them. microwave is essentially brand new though, so hoping that sells.
Visit your local Lowes early on a Saturday morning. They usually have good deal on applicances that they want to clear out. Basically scratch/dent or repaired that is still under warranty. I've gotten appliances for 30%-40% of it's normal prices. Most of the appliances on my rental properties are purchased this way.

i think you misread my original post. i'm looking for places that buy used appliances.

if you want to go the free route - try freecycle.org
There was a place in Elmwood Park that does buy used appliances. I think it was AAA Vacuum Store. I bought a used dryer from them about 15 years ago. I'm 99% sure it was them, but you can call them to find out. I do know for sure the place was in Elmwood Park.
AAA Vacuum Store, 250 Broadway, Elmwood Park, NJ 07407. 201-300-6205
Do you have any used furniture stores? We have a few (Burlington County) that not only sell quality used furniture but also sell used appliances.
If so, perhaps they'd be willing to make an offer on your things?
