We've got several 40' (plus) trees in our yard and I worry about all the previous, huge rainfalls we've recently had. Their roots are probably sitting in some pretty soggy soil

Uprooted Trees

This actually worries me more than earthquakes, lol. Depending on the track it could be downright nasty around here come the weekend. I'm fortunate that we only have one large tree in the immediate vicinity of our property (none on our property) and it appears to be quite healthy. Worst case scenario is we take a heck of a beating, especially at the shore. Best case (and most probable) is that we just get a ton of rain and high winds. Either way the weekends pretty much shot.

Scary. Anyone else considering leaving the east coast until it passes?

My only concern would be flying back home. Airports could be closed.

Flooding may definitely be an issue in low lying areas, but with all of the ground saturation we've had lately more rain coupled with high winds ought to make things interesting for power crews and tree services. I passed a legion of tree trucks headed north when I was coming south on 31 this morning. The chainsaws and the truck will be at the ready-need to start thinking about next year's firewood!

I doubt the airports around here will be closed Saturday morning. They're going to want to get as many flights in/out as possible before the conditions get bad. We're looking for things to start getting rough late Saturday night/Sunday morning, so you should be able to get in with time to spare. So unless you're connecting in Norfolk, VA or something I don't think you'll have a problem. I'm flying out of JFK on Saturday evening, so I'm a little concerned, but confident that even by then we'll be able to get out.
