If you tip a delivery person, especially while they are carrying something, you might make them fall over all the way. They might not appreciate that

I try to keep them straight up.

Servers make at least minimum wage between a combination of hourly rate + tips. If tips don't bring the hourly rate up to minimum wage, the restaurant must make up the difference.

To the OP: I don't tip furniture delivery men b/c I already pay for shipping.

Every delivery person deserves a tip of some kind. Minimum of $5 each for small furniture delivery. If they assemble something for you, tip $10 and up depending on the amount of time it took. Don't be cheap, the delivery charge you pay for does not go to the men.

We just had a big sectional with 3 reclining pieces and a chaise lounge, plus a queen mattress and box spring delivered. Our condo is on the 2nd floor and they had to take the back of the chaise lounge off to get it up the stairs! It was 2 men, one experienced and the second a newby. We tipped $40 and had cold bottled water for them. (We live in SW Florida and it's a hot, sunny day.) They really worked hard, were polite and very cautious of our door, walls, etc. Would have given more $ but only had the $40 cash on us! They deserved every dollar!!

Also applies to appliance deliveries.

$10 for anyone on the truck. And a bottle of cold water or a can of soda pop. Everyone always happy.

I learned years ago to hand the money to each, not just the foreman.
