I am moving to the Audubon NJ area and am looking for a place in the 600 to 750 range. This area is reasonably close to work and where I would like to be. I just saw a place that was $700 a month, but was never listed online, so by the time I checked it out somebody was about to sign the lease and I lost that opportunity.
Renting part of a duplex seems less expensive if they can be found.
Where is the best place to look in this price range, online?
Any advice appreciated.
I work a split shift schedule that changes and do not want to get in a roommate situation bc this did not work out previously due to my hours.
The issue is more like that anywhere in your price range won't be safe or nice, hence no one can give you a worthwhile answer.
Eh, I rented right off of Haddon Ave in Westmont for 850 a month, so the price range isn't that outlandish. I applied to a 750/month on Haddon Ave in downtown Collingswood, but apparently so did 150 other people. There are landlords who (foolishly perhaps) rent for fairly cheap in the area. The OP is right to suspect that a privately listed duplex is the way to go. Unfortunately, to find these you're stuck with craigslist, newspaper ads, or For Rent signs passing by. And, these places usually go quickly.
You can also give some of the real estate apps/sites a shot--I'd recommend Zillow Rentals as a good one to start with. Type in your parameters as far as price, bedrooms/baths, and what towns/zip codes you are willing to consider. Your search will give you apartment houses/complexes as well as those private landlords renting out the 2nd floor of a duplex.
To open up your possibilities, I'd suggest expanding your search to not just Audubon, but other towns nearby--ie Haddon Heights,Barrington, Haddon Township, Collingswood. . .and--if you don't consider them too far away, you might find even lower rents in Oaklyn and Gloucester City. Is $750 your bottom line on rent? Or can you go a little higher? In general, you may have to spend a little more than $750/month--looks like $850 is bottom line for a 1BR in Collingswood, $895-950 in some of the other towns.

Is Oaklyn safe? A big NO to Gloucester City. Not my sort of people.
My co-worker has a high-paying job and is a class act, as does her husband who's quite respectable, and they live in Gloucester City. Don't stereotype.

Why not?
