My experience was the same when I worked in CC. They did not withhold any NJ state tax. Though it was sort of a tradeoff at tax time, I usually ended up paying the state.

I work in Philly, live in New Jersey. I Paid $1,700.00 in City Wage Tax for Philadelphia. When I applied that amount on my New Jersey state tax I was only credited 900.00. Are you saying I should not have New Jersey state tax withheld and only pay Cit Wage Tax? This will equal out at the end?

Do you just not have the NJ tax withheld and then pay the difference after doing your taxes? Or are you not paying NJ tax at all?

My employer can't seem to figure out how to withhold the appropriate amount of NJ tax...so rather than waste copious amounts of time trying to figure it out with them, I just have my accountant do my taxes and I pay the difference b/t my city wage and NJ tax.

fyi...as NJ resident who works in Philly I have no NJ state tax taken out but if work any days outside of Philly during the year such as work form home or a
location not in Philly you can file a Philly Wage Tax refund for those days.

Here's a link: City of Philadelphia | Revenue Department (http://www.phila.gov/revenue/Refund.html - broken link)

In 2010 I only had 5 of those days but got back $33, in 2009 9 days was $85.

I'm the same, live in S. Jersey but work in Philly. Another tax question: would Christie's newly proposed 10% income tax cut impact us Philly workers?

Yes, because even though you work in Philly, you still owe NJ state income taxes. It would have no impact on what you pay in Philly Wage Tax though, in reality, it would probably mean you would be getting less of the money you paid in wage taxes back as your liability to NJ would be lower.

My husband works in Philly and we live in NJ. He pays city wage tax/municipal tax. We file 2 tax returns, we break even for philly because they send even it out with NJ. Since we have more deductions and such we usually get a refund from NJ of part of our wage tax. Usually about $50, not much but we dont owe either. We never get NJ taxes taken out.
