Default Pahrump, we love it

Hi
We moved to Pahrump 2 years ago from San Diego County. We sold our overpriced house and bought 2-1/2 acres in Pahrump and built a brand new home. This is something that we could have never done in Southern California. We are retired so that is totally different than someone who is still gamefully employed. There are very few well paying jobs in Pahrump unless you happen to build homes. That seems to be the going thing now. All the people who can't afford to live in Vegas or don't like the hectic lifestyle are moving to Pahrump. Its about 1 hour from Vegas and is a very pleasant drive. Actually I am becoming upset because the reason we moved here was less expensive housing and fewer people. Now there are several Vegas developers who are building tracts of homes on small lots, the very reason we left California.
I think we we will last about 2 more years because at the rate it is going there will be many more people here. You can tell things are changing as we now have a Walmart, and Home Depot is breaking ground next month.

What is the old adage, you find something nice and pretty soon everyone else finds it too....guess that is the nature of the beast.

Good luck,
BobbieP

There's always Sandy valley, Overton, logandale or Caliente if you get tired of it in Pahrump.

Our son and family have lived in Pahrump for about 10 years and they like it. Both have good jobs outside the gambling venue. In our visits there, we have met some very nice people, but it is growing very fast and has changed so much since the first visit we made. A lot of people there are creative in making a living--businesses like yours that do not depend on local support so much.

Default Lrua

Pahrump is a great choice. Real estate prices will soar in the future, great climate and proximity to Las Vegas. Here are average high's and Low's ....

JAN 58 28
FEB 63 32
MAR 68 38
APR 75 44
MAY 84 52
JUN 95 60
JUL 100 67
AUG 99 65
SEP 92 57
OCT 80 44
NOV 67 33
DEC 58 27

Similiar to Las Vegas temps, abit cooler at nite, due to Pahrump's slightly higher elevation at 2674 feet.

Hello,

I used to live in Pahrump with my family. It's a pretty nice place to live. You can get good deals on houses, and it's growing quite fast, actually. My teenagers thought it was boring, but both my husband & I liked it

HI Ron, I live in Pahrump, bought here in 93, and finally settled in 04. Bikes are a big thing here, wonderful rides in every direction, lots of bikers here and traveling through here. We even have a bike RV park.... Salaries are bad in Pahrump and it is an hour drive to Vegas, plus cost of fuel. Housing market is terrible right now everything is for sale and you can make some good deals.
In Jan we have our cold month, but usually nothing like Spokane, no snow, perhaps a dusting once in a while, but nothing sticks. Hot in the summer, July and Aug are worse, last summer had a week in excess of 120, but everything is a/c so you can deal with it. Rest of the year is it beautiful except for wind. If you have any other questions let me know.
Hugs Pat

Hello! I might be a little late on this thread, but I thought I'd chime in anyway.

My family and I have lived in Pahrump since around 2003, and we love it here.
Granted, there's not much to do so we invent ways to keep ourselves busy. We have animals such as goats and ducks in our yard because I've always wanted them and we have chickens for egg production. We moved here from Vegas because of the crime level there and have been happy with our decision ever since. There is no tax on sealed food, even milk, and our tax rate is 6.75% as opposed to Vegas, which I think now is 7.75%.

The town is changing though. With more and more people moving in, it's becoming a little less friendly. This is especially noticable when driving. Rush hour when we first moved here used to be 4 cars waiting at the same intersection! Now, you have to wait an average of 5 minutes to get onto Hwy 160 from Homestead road. Don't like it You can tell the people who have lived here for an amount of time. They will let you go first at the stop signs, whether you got there first or not. Just a way for everybody to continue on their happy way

.The town board in their infinite wisdom decided to start "zoning" the area. They zoned for multitudes of new housing without the foresight to consider our natural water table. My house is on a well system, and let me tell you, I would NOT want to be on the city water system. My water is clear, unpolluted and tastes like water, not chemicals and bleach. And, it's free

Because of the new housing, and new people, the town is changing rapidly. There are more small business popping up everywhere which is a good thing. If you want to open a motorcycle shop, your only real competition is Harley Roads. My friend owned the motorcycle shop on Mountain Springs for a long time, but that doesn't exist anymore. Do your homework and you can succeed out here

We now have a bowling alley and may soon have a movie theatre. The theatre has been approved by the town council, we're just waiting for the groundbreaking. Besides that, nothing much to do.

But we celebrate holidays in style! Chief John of the fire department oversees the best 4th of July fireworks show that you could imagine for a small town! Just about 1mil in fireworks every year that make a spectacular show! Everyone gathers at the park and it's very friendly and relaxed, and they have vendors also.

I can't believe no one mentioned Fall Festival! It's the biggest thing going out here! Over 200,000 people come from everywhere to buy and sell their goods, there are live bands and a carnival for the kids. We look forward to it every year. It's just FUN! It's a great gathering place for everybody in town.

Hope I could help with your decision. This is a great place. We're looking at moving somewhere greener for the kids. They've never really been fishing or boating, and I think that's important. We're looking out towards Arkansas Let me know if you need more info!

Smile Moving to Pahrump

Hello there,

My husband & I moved here approx 2 years ago because of our kids. We wanted a safer, & quiet place to live. The people are more friendly here and if you like Nevada, Pahrump is a nice place to live. Especially at night, you can see the stars so clearly. We are actually relocating to Utah for my husbands job and will be selling are house if you are interested in taking it over or renting it. It is on a 1/2 acre across from golf course. Please email me if interested. Misseymay1@yahoo.com
