On my drive out of CO at the end of June I'd like to start off splitting I-80 and I-70 and Someone suggested I take Rt 36 heading east since I am not in a hurry. I also see 34 so I can take either one. I just want a slower pace of driving with places to stop to stretch, eat and buy gas. A few interesting places to stop and visit would be a bonus. I may overnight in Lincoln as I've written in another post a few minutes ago so either 36 or 34 would work fine.

Any opinions on either of these routes?

Interesting, highway 34 takes some strange shifts in Nebraska. Highway 36 goes along the northern edge of Kansas. I can't say its that interesting, other than a few of the restaurants along the highway in the ag belt county seat towns.

Yes it does. (34). But by the time it starts meandering back up to the interstate that may be okay if I decide to go to Lincoln and Davey.

Hi --- 36 runs through N Kansas, and 34 S Nebraska. I've driven on 34, there isn't much there, but you are correct it is a slower pace drive (compared to I-80) through towns where you will have opportunities for a few things, including gas. If it was me and time was not of the essence, I'd take 34 up towards Hastings, then HWY 6 towards Lincoln. I live in Lincoln. The scenery and towns on 34 or 36 aren't going to be much different.

On your other post, there won't be any hotels in Davey. They might have a town bar, and maybe a gas station, but likely about it. For hotels, you might look to a few in Northeast Lincoln near I-80. Not too far from there. For restaurants, you are likely heading to LNK. If you want specific recommendations, feel free to PM me with your specific tastes (e.g. what cuisine you are looking for).

Good luck.

Thanks for that info. That helps for sure. And now that I draw the map in closer I see that 36 certainly is not in Nebraska at all. Someone on another page recommended 36 and called it a specific name such as an old Pioneer road or something similar. I am sure I am wrong how I remember it.

I usually take 34 or 6 from CO through southern NE to Lincoln area. (Enjoying the small towns and stopping to chat at feed stores, grain elevators and hardware shops.) and of course enjoying the 'local' food... https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/nebr...onic-foods-ne/

for Kansas, here are some scenic routes.

I like the flint hills / sandstone villages (and Fence posts) near Lincoln KS

Pony Express highway, there's a few signs along the route; and a few historical monuments; but not much else...barring friendly farmers waving from atop tractors.

Thanks. No doubt some of the drive will be boring but if I am off the interstate I can handle boring.

I made it exciting, there are these long rolling hills; enabling one to see for miles.
So going downhill I did 110 or so when nobody was around, then slowed at the top.
And got pulled over for only doing 10 over, the rookie was standing in the road taking my info; so I asked him to move to the passenger side for his own safety.
Then he just let me go on my way, without even a warning.
Have a safe, and enjoyable road trip.
