My employer is located in Brentwood, TN Which is a suburb of Nashville, TN. Depending on my employer offer between $21.00 - $22.00 an hour full time 40 hours a week. I will have to get a second job on the weekend. Can I afford to live if I live with roommates?

Way too open ended of a question. We don't know your expenses.

A 1-bd apt. will be at least $1,400/mo if not more.
Car expenses? Commuting cost?
What other expenses do you have?
Student loans?

As a Brentwood resident, I would say probably not. That’s one thing that’s unfortunate about Brentwood. ALL the housing options are extremely expensive. Your best bet would be to look at the small section of Brentwood that is in Davidson County or somewhere in Franklin. Then it may be possible if you find a couple other people to rent an apartment with.

Brentwood may be priced out of your range. You may have to commute from Bellevue or another part of Davidson county.

Probably should have a relo agent that can help you. Ask your employer if they can help you with this.

I guess this also gets into a question of personal preference. If you get a second job at a similar hourly rate and have a few roommates, can you live on it? Probably (at least as far as rent, water, utilities; can't speak to any other debts you may have), but you will have to be extremely frugal and not enjoy Brentwood/Nashville, and also never save any money to retire or for your heirs (if you have any). To me, it would not be worth living paycheck to paycheck if you can't also enjoy all of the amenities of living in the area, but again, personal preference.

If I am in your shoes, I am asking the employer for more money, another location, or looking for another job. Brentwood is just a nice suburb of Nashville, but outside of being close to Nashville (which, IMO, you can't enjoy on that pay) is just another nice suburb.

Don't try it.

Brentwood is very affluent. $21/hr. is about $43k/year. That's the most affluent suburb of Nashville.

You could rent a room with roommates. If you're not already int he area, don't move for a job paying that. Find something better where you are.

It won't work on that wage. You will need a couple of roommates to live in Smyrna/Lavergne and commute. Brentioch and Franklin are possibilities but still challenging.

You will struggle to live in Brentwood with twice that kind of income.

A little off topic, but is there a safe area or suburb where the OP could make a go with his income?

My son may be looking at the area with limited income initially.
