Hi everyone....I'm just wondering if there is any length of time after you quit a job that you can file for unemployment. I quit my job in May to finish my last year of college and have been trying to find a part time job. I knew when I quit my job that I would not be able to file for unemployment, but I'm just wondering in case I am not able to find a job eventually, if there is any length of time after you quit when you can file unemployment. Thanks so much.

Look at the onestop website; it may have your answer. www.sconestop.org look under "More Job Seeker Options" and then "Unemployment Services".

You might also try putting this in the main South Carolina forum instead.

Not sure you can file if you quit a job. I could be wrong, however. I waited 3 months before I filed mine, so I'm guessing you'll be fine for the timeline.

I don't think you can receive unemployment benefits if you quit a job. Not sure of the length of time that you have to file after job ends. I do know that the length of time that you can receive it has recently been extended but it varies from state to state.

In a word, No, you cant quit your job and collect unemployment. There is one exception, and that is if you quit for "good cause" which in your situation, does not apply. Unemployment is a safety net for those who's job ended by no fault of their own, to allow them some cash to live on (not much) till they can get another job. I wish you luck in your job search!
